Jitan Ram Manjhi resigns ahead of trust vote
Minutes ahead of the trust vote, Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has reportedly quit this morning after he met the Governor. There are unconfirmed reports that he met the Governor and resigned from his post. Manjhi was supposed to seek a trust vote in the Bihar Assembly today after his government was plunged into a crisis as JD(U) expelled him from the party. Manjhi was made the CM after Nitish Kumar had stepped aside owning responsibility for the Lok Sabha election debacle.
Yesterday, the Bihar Assembly Secretariat notified the JD(U) as the main opposition party replacing the BJP, with Vijay Kumar Choudhary as leader of the opposition in place of the BJP’s Nandkishore Yadav. The roles could well hold good only for a few days, for if the government falls, the BJP will be back at the head of opposition against a JD(U) government.
