AAP rocked by another sting, tape claims Arvind Kejriwal refused poll tickets to Muslims

New Delhi: The tale of sting operations and audiotapes within Aam Aadmi Party’s ranks took another twist on Thursday as an erstwhile party leader accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of playing communal politics during the recently-concluded Assembly polls.

Former AAP leader Shahid Azad released a tape claiming that Kejriwal refused tickets to Muslim hopefuls on the premise that the minority community’s votes were already in his party’s kitty.

The 90-second-long tape that allegedly contains conversations between Kejriwal and another party leader Irfanullah Khan has the Delhi CM reportedly saying that Muslims were aware that only the AAP can stop Modi wave.

Kejriwal is also caught on tape saying that Muslims have no choice but to vote for AAP.

Talking to Zee News, Azad said, “Kejriwal said Muslims won’t vote for Congress, so, whether we give tickets to Muslim candidates or not, the minority community will vote for AAP anyways.”

Earlier, Ex-Congress MLA Asif Mohammed Khan claimed to have held meetings with Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, and said that senior AAP leaders had approached him to explore their party’s alliance with Congress.

On Wednesday, AAP leader Anjali Damania resigned from the party after it came to the fore that Kejriwal had allegedly tried to break away Congress MLAs to get the numbers to be back as Delhi CM after the Lok Sabha poll loss.

The allegations were based on a taped conversation between Rajesh Garg, AAP’s ex-MLA from Rohini, and Kejriwal in July 2014.

The disclosures come at a time when the AAP is battling an internal crisis, with Kejriwal’s supporters seeking the ouster of founder members – Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan.

The AAP chief’s supporters have accused the duo of attempting to unseat Kejriwal and of having tried to ensure that the party lost the Delhi Assembly polls.
