Hema Malini’s Driver Arrested After Road Accident
JAIPUR: Actor-politician Hema Malini’s driver has been arrested after an accident last night in Rajasthan in which a child was killed. The BJP leader’s Mercedes was speeding and hit a Maruti Alto leading to the death of four-year-old girl who was travelling with her parents, the police said.
Hema Malini is not seriously hurt. The girl’s parents and another young child who were in the Alto have been hospitalised.
“I am being told the Mercedes was speeding. It drove over the divider,” said senior police officer Rajinder Tyagi from Dausa, where the accident took place, about 60 km from the state capital of Jaipur. However, he said the driver of the Alto may not have been paying attention while entering the section of the highway where the collision took place.
Dausa Superintendent of Police, Anshuman Bhomia said, “Five people were injured and out of them Sonam died. Sonam’s mother and brother have been referred to SMS (Sawai Man Singh) hospital.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the news of Dausa accident. I pray for the victims. We’re making all efforts to provide immediate relief and medical care.”
Hema Malini, 66-year-old actor-turned-politician, was treated for minor injuries in a Jaipur hospital. Staff said she walked in unaided and received four stitches.
“Hema has injuries above her eyes, on her back and legs. I drove her to the hospital in my car. She was in pain,” Rajasthan lawmaker Shankar Lal Sharma told reporters on Thursday night.
Hema Malini represents Mathura in Parliament. She was headed from her constituency to Jaipur when the accident took place.
