BMW launches ‘X6 Sports Activity Coupe’ at Rs 1.15 crore
German luxury car maker BMW on Thursday re-launched the updated model of BMW X6 in Bengaluru. The new vehicle is the second-generation of the BMW X6, which it had discontinued in 2014.
The second generation sports activity coupe (SAC) will be made available at all BMW dealership across India as completely built-up (CBU) and is priced at around Rs.1.15 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The new X6 is a diesel variant and the company is planning to launch the petrol variant by the end of the year.
The new vehicle will be made available in five different colours — alpine white (non-metallic), carbon black, flamenco red brilliant effect, space grey, and mineral white. The new model comes out with an intelligent BMW xDrive four-wheel drive system which can adapts perfectly to even the most challenging road surface conditions, ensuring outstanding traction at all times.
Speaking at the launch, Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said, “The BMW X6 was the first of its kind and the second generation once again perfectly combines quintessential BMW X qualities with elegance of a BMW coupe. The all-new BMW X6 with the M Sport package sees BMW once again setting the benchmark for extravagant, emotive design, luxurious interiors and extensive customisation options.”
Further he said, India is a growing market for the company and it has invested around €69 million in India. The company has a manufacturing facility in Chennai, a parts warehouse in Mumbai and training centre in Gurgaon. The car maker also said that it was bullish about make in India and it already had good partnership with Indian component manufactures. The company was also looking at localisation initiatives at the manufacturing facility in Chennai. BMW makes around six variants of its cars in the facility in Chennai. At present, the two assembly lines in Chennai had a capacity to locally produce up to 14,000 units. “Make in India initiative is the very progressive step by the government for encouraging business in India. India is a growth market and presents huge opportunity in terms of demand and supply. We are also actively looking at localisation and localisation at our Chennai plant has reached up to 50 per cent,” said Mr. Sahr.
