iPhone SE to go on sale in India from April 8
Apple’s latest iPhone – iPhone SE, will be introduced in India next month with a price tag of Rs.39,000.
The 4-inch device, unveiled by the California-headquartered firm on Monday, is the most affordable iPhone at the mentioned price. In the U.S. market the phone will retail with a starting price of $399.
The iPhone SE comes is powered by new A9 chipset which is used in top-end iPhone 6s devices. It will be available in space grey, silver, gold and rose gold metallic finishes in 16GB and 64GB models starting at Rs.39,000.
In separate releases Beetel Teletech and Redington announced that they will begin the distribution of iPhone SE from April 8 across 3,500 and 3,000 outlets, respectively.
Beetel Teletech said pre-orders for the handset will begin March 29 onwards.
“iPhone SE is packed with a stunning 4-inch Retina display, advanced 64-bit A9 chip with M9 motion co-processor, longer battery life, 12-megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash, Live Photos, 4K video, faster LTE and Wi-Fi,” according to a statement from Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller.
According to Anshul Gupta, Research Director, Gartner the new device will help Apple broaden their market segment. “Users will be able to buy a phone with latest features which is very different from buying an older version at lower price. I think this will appeal more people to buy an Apple phone who otherwise couldn’t afford their flagship phone. This will make market more competitive,” he added.
The iPhone 5s is available at a starting price of about Rs 18,000, while for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus the prices start at about Rs 32,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively.
