Central government : Pulses prices will not be allowed to cross Rs 120 per kg
New Delhi: To prevent pulses prices from skyrocketing, the Central government not only plans to release 10,000 tons of pulses, mainly tur and urad, to ensure availability at reasonable prices, it has also asked States to disallow selling pulses at more than Rs 120 per kg.
The states will get the unmilled tur dal at Rs 66 per kg and urad at Rs 88 per from the Centres buffer stock, which after processing will be sold at not more than Rs 120 per kg.
The Centre has also asked State governments to be vigilant on movement of prices, availability of stock and hoarding of pulses.
In pockets, retail prices of urad dal have touched Rs 200 per kg, while prics of tur have reached Rs 170 per kg.
Though overall food prices remained stable, but pulses are seeing an upward movement owing to lower production.
Pulses production in the country is in 2015-16 crop year is expected to be 170 lakh tonne angainst the demand of 235 lakh tonnes.
