Sensex hits fresh all-time intra-day high of 30,424 in opening trade

New Delhi: Sensex on Tuesday hit fresh all-time intra-day high of 30,424.33 in opening trade while Nifty gained a new peak of 9,461.

The 30-share BSE index leapt 181.36 points, or 0.60 percent, to trade at a new record 30,503.48, surpassing its previous milestone of 30,366.43 (intra-day) touched on May 11.

The gauge had rallied 134 points in the previous session.

The National Stock Exchange index Nifty did not disappoint either, gaining another 36.90 points, or 0.39 per cent, to hit a new high of 9,482.30, breaching its previous intra-day high of 9,450.65 hit on May 11.

Meanwhile the rupee saw a marginal drop of 6 paise to 64.11 against the US dollar in opening session today in the midst of fresh demand for the American unit.

However, what limited the rupee’s fall was the US dollar sliding in the global market and a spectacular opening in domestic equities, traders said.

Yesterday, re-asserting its dominance against the dollar, the rupee shot up 26 paise to end at a fresh 21-month high of 64.05, driven by robust macro data, even as exporters aggressively offloaded the American currency.
