Maharashtra civic polls: BJP leads in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and Solapur

PUNE: In a major setback to the ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and its leader Ajit Pawar, the BJP is emerging victorious in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporation polls.

The NCP is ruling these civic bodies for the last ten years. In Solapur, hometown of former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde, the Congress is losing its ground to the BJP.

As per the leads available by afternoon, the BJP is leading on 67 seats in Pune followed by the NCP (33) , Congress (12), Shiv Sena (10) and MNS (6). BJP will need 82 seats to reach majority in the house of 162 members.

In Pimpri Chinchwad, BJP is giving a tough fight to the NCP, leading on 30 seats while the NCP is leading on 22 seats.

In Solapur, the BJP is heading for a clean sweep. The BJP is leading on 24 seats, Shiv Sena on 20 and Congress on four seats.
