New Delhi: In what could cause a fuss among Congressmen, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar may adopt a village in Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s home turf Amethi under Adarsh Gram Yojana, as per reports on Thursday.
While Rahul Gandhi is a Lok Sabha MP from Amethi, Parrikar is a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh. Reports suggested that Parrikar will soon make an official announcement on this.
Adarsh Gram Yojana is a rural development scheme that aims at improving the standard of living and quality of life of all sections of people by improving basic amenities.
Under this scheme, a Member of Parliament must identify a village, other than his or her own village or that of the spouse, and turn it into a ‘model village’ by 2016 and two more villages two 2019. After 2019, the MP must develop five model villages till 2024 (each every year).
The scheme announced by PM Modi on August 15 during his Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort was drafted by the Ministry of Rural Development.
