Narendra Modi to be BJP’s face in Bihar Assembly polls; No CM candidate

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party will fight upcoming Assembly Elections in Bihar in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Anant Kumar announced on Tuesday.

The BJP will not announce the chief ministerial candidate, said the election in-charge of BJP in poll-bound Bihar.

“The BJP will not announce its chief ministerial candidate. The BJP has several capable leaders for the top political post in the state but it will fight the assembly elections in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Ananth Kumar.

“Narendra Modi is the BJP face; our party will contest the Assembly polls under his leadership,” he told the media here.

Notably, Nitish Kumar has been declared the chief ministerial nominee of the Janata Dal-United, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress combine for the forthcoming polls.

Nitish Kumar said that the BJP had, in the last one year, contested Assembly Elections in different states in the name of Modi.

The union minister downplayed the repeated demand of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and the Bihar CM that the BJP too declare its chief ministerial candidate.

On Monday, BJP ally Rashtriya Lok Samta Party had said its party chief and Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha should be declared the alliance’s chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Bihar polls.

Another BJP ally, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party announced last week that Paswan will not be the NDA’s chief ministerial candidate.

Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, who has already announced he would join the NDA in the state, said that he is not in the race for the top job and only a Bharatiya Janata Party leader would be the candidate.

In the caste-ridden politics of the state, there are over half-a-dozen BJP leaders from the upper castes and the backward castes who have staked their claim for being nominated as the chief ministerial candidate.
