Sheena Bora Murder Case: Indrani Mukerjea Remains Critical

MUMBAI: Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea, who is accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, continues to remain critical and has not regained consciousness as yet, doctors attending to her at the JJ hospital have said.

Dr T P Lahane, the Dean of JJ Hospital has said that Indrani was responding to treatment and added that doctors are trying hard to revive her from deep sleep.

He added that Ms Mukerjea was not on ventilator support, but was being given oxygen because she is not able to breath on her own.

Dr Lahane had yesterday said that according to a report from Hinduja Hospital laboratory, the level of benzodiazepine – an anti-depressant – was found raised in her urine sample.

“Normally if a patient is on anti-depressant drug, the level of benzodiazepine in urine is 200. But in Indrani’s case, it is 2088. The report is positive for drug overdose. Anti-epileptic drugs have already been ruled out. The (test) has come negative. It is only the anti-depressant that has caused the thing (collapse),” he had said.

Principal Home Secretary (Prisons) Vijay Satbir Singh has said the probe is looking into all aspects including whether the medicines or any other toxic substance she consumed were prescribed by the doctors and ascertain if there was an overdose.

The probe is also looking if there was negligence or foul play and action would be taken against those found responsible, he had said.

Ms Mukerjea, 43, was arrested in August and has been lodged at the Byculla jail since September 7 when she was remanded in judicial custody.
