My getting Rs 11 cr is a small step towards equality with male actors: Kangana Ranaut
“Who wouldn’t want to be called ‘lady Aamir Khan’?,” says an uninhibited Kangana Ranaut at the promotional duties of her upcoming movie in New Delhi, when asked about the constant comparisons with the perfectionist Aamir.
Kangana Ranaut might be perfection personified and at the top of her game right now, yet the remuneration she gets for her movies would lag far behind that of Aamir, or for that matter any other Khan.
Does she rue the fact? “I can speak for myself. I don’t know what others are doing. If you’re doing one scene and two songs in a film, you cannot expect to be paid at par with the actors. And if you have given one of the biggest blockbusters of all times, you can go ahead and demand that much money,” opined Kangana Ranaut, who reportedly became the highest paid actress in Bollywood with a deal of Rs 11 cr.
For the first time ever, the ranking of the World’s highest-paid actors for the year 2015 looked outside US to list the most-highly paid male actors across the world. The list featured 12 newcomers, five from India alone. Of 34 actors, Indian stars comprised the largest number of listees after US. Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar were the three stars who featured in the top 10 of the list.
Among the actresses, not a single Bollywood actress made to the coveted list.
According to another list, while Salman Khan leads the pack with earnings of about Rs 60 cr, Kangana has Rs 11 cr to her credits.
Many actresses, from Bollywood too, have criticised the huge disparity in the incomes. And Kangana too supports
the general notion.
“I am complaining too. There was a point when my complaint wasn’t rational and yet, I felt that way even earlier. But the data wasn’t supporting me. ‘Queen’ did make money, about Rs 100 cr, but still I wasn’t sure how much money could I ask for after that. Also, giving a 250 cr money is a different thing altogether. My getting Rs 11 cr is a small step towards that equality you are talking about, and as a woman I would also want to see…to be treated as an equal,” added Kangana.
