Air India crew member caught stealing ‘sarkari maal’
Chennai: If the escapades of an Air India cabin crew member are any indication of the state of affairs in the national carrier, then turning the ‘Maharaja’ profitable may end up being just wishful thinking.
The customs and vigilance officials in Chennai were shocked recently when they checked the baggage of a lady cabin crew member who had flown in on an international flight from Colombo.
Acting on a tip-off her baggage was screened only to reveal that the air hostess had carried off all that she could lay her hands on during the flight.
The seized items included in-flight meals, coffee boxes, milk cartons, whiskey bottles, cashew nuts, juice packets and much more, the Hindustan Times reported.
The cabin crew in question had operated the Chennai-Colombo-Delhi sector with a night halt in Delhi and then the Delhi-Colombo-Chennai sector.
The cabin crew carried out the shameful act despite Air India’s new chairman and managing director Ashwani Lohani warning of strict action against those caught pilfering.
The newspaper quoted an airline spokesperson as saying that she has been taken off the roster, pending an inquiry.
