DMRC: Metro’s first ‘ad train’ takes off

Delhi Metro on Saturday inducted a train with advertisements wrapped on its exterior into its fleet in a move aimed at increasing its non-operational revenues. The train will run on the Blue Line (Dwarka-Noida City Centre/Vaishali), which is one of the busiest in the entire Metro network.

Exclusive advertising rights, valid for 10 years, have been given to two agencies. The selected agencies will give an annual license fee. Initially, 15 such trains will be inducted — with seven trains on the Yellow Line (Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre) and eight trains on the Blue Line. The second ad-wrapped train will start running on the Yellow Line next week.

Advertisements adorning the exteriors of the trains will be in the form of pictures, holographic images and visual displays among others.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation operates a fleet of over 200 trains at present. The interiors of the trains have already been given out for advertisements.
