Holi:Festival of colours today, high in Delhi: Beer upping booze sales

NEW DELHI: Tipplers seem to be drinking to their heart’s content this Holi. And as cash registers keep ringing, Delhi government’s excise department is elated over the revenue collections from sale of liquor as they have shown a rise since the last week of February.

Between March 1 and 4 alone, excise collections were Rs 60 crore, an increase of Rs 20 crore during the same period last year.

The target for the current financial year is Rs 3,550 crore and the revenue collected so far has reached Rs 3,094 crore. The excise department is optimistic that it will be able to meet its target by March 31.

While whisky was a hot favourite in winter, beer sales are picking up with the approaching summer. Like every year, even this time Holi revelers have been partying and the last two weeks have seen brisk business. Also, with Holi followed by a long weekend, Bacchus lovers are likely to extend the party.
