India vs Australia Semifinal Bigger Than India vs Pakistan in Cricket World Cup: Ganguly

Legends like Sourav Ganguly, Ian Chappell and Brian Lara can’t see Pakistan making the cricket World Cup semifinals. Pakistan face Cup co-hosts Australia in Adelaide Oval on Friday and both teams are expected to play aggressive cricket on a greenish pitch.

But men like Ganguly are predicting an India versus Australia semifinal in Sydney on March 26. Pakistan running hot and cold in the tournament has clearly not impressed the former stalwarts and Ganguly is one of many.
Hinting at Pakistan’s gradual decline in reputation ever since they won the World Cup in 1992 under Imran Khan, Ganguly doesn’t reckon an India versus Pakistan match as a derby game.

“India versus Australia semifinal is a bigger game than an India versus Pakistan match,” Ganguly said on STAR Sports. Chappell agrees with Ganguly.

Brian Lara said Pakistan haven’t looked very convincing but they can surprise Australia if they bowl first and get the hosts out for a small total.

Rank outsiders Pakistan still have the capability to surprise. But Ganguly and Chappell feel in terms of sheer quality, the Australians are vastly superior.

Ganguly feels a semifinal between India and Australia will be one of the biggest games of the World Cup.
“It’s going to be a battle between quality players,” said Ganguly.

Chappell is more specific. “It will be a battle between (Ravichandran) Ashwin and (Glenn) Maxwell.”
Defending champions India thrashed Bangladesh by 109 runs in a quarterfinal match in Melbourne on Thursday. India batted, bowled and fielded well to send the right signals.

MS Dhoni’s team will surely find their match in the Australians, who will be eager to continue their winning run against the rampaging Indians at home.
