Karnataka, Gujarat lifts Maggi ban

The State government has lifted the ban on Maggi noodles on Monday.

Maggi, a popular instant noodles brand of Nestle, was banned in June following directive of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) — a Central Watch Dog. The food product was banned as a precautionary measure to ensure public health.

Making an announcement on lifting the ban on Maggi, the Minister for Health U.T. Khader said that, as none of the food testing laboratories has quantified the extent of lead and monosodium Gutamate (MSG) content in Maggi, ban was withdrawn with immediate effect, he said.

However, Mr. Khader said that, department would not allow marketing of ‘old’ stock in to the market. Fresh product would be allowed in to the market after testing, he clarified.

Gujarat Food and Drug Control Authority (FDCA) too said it has lifted the ban on the sale ‘Maggi’ noodles.
