Mumbai: Mumbaikars continue to face a harrowing time as waterlogging, frequent power cuts and traffic snarls caused by incessant rain since Tuesday morning has badly hit vehicular movement and train services across the city.
According to media reports, several areas in Mumbai like Hindmata, Parel, Dadar, Bandra, Sion, Colaba, Lalbaugh, Matunga, Mahim, Kurla, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Malad, Ghatkopar, Bhandup etc have witnessed heavy rainfall since this morning, making it difficult for commuters here.
Incessant rainfall in the past five days has led to severe waterlogging, traffic jams and power cuts in several parts of the city, especially in low lying areas like Dadar and Bandra.
Due to heavy rainfall in the city, train services on all the three suburban lines were delayed by 20 to 30 minutes.
Rail services on Central lines have been disrupted as overhead high tension wire snapped at Dadar early this morning .
Immediate restoration work is in progress to normalise the movement of trains. Several trains on Central line are stranded, while some trains are diverted on the fast track.
Trains on western line are delayed by 15 to 20 minutes, while Harbour line trains are running 30 minutes late.
Meanwhile, the Met department has predicted heavy rainfall in Mumbai throughout the day. Intermittent rain or showers would occur in the city and suburbs, heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur in some areas in the next 24 hours, the Met department said.
Till 9 am, the city has witnessed at least 38 mm rainfall since morning.
Landslides triggered by heavy rain had blocked the Mumbai-Pune Expressway stopping vehicular traffic on Monday.
Due to the landslide that took place near Khandala, a popular hill station, at around 10 am and blocked the road, the authorities had to divert the traffic through the old Mumbai-Pune road.
Seasonal rains in Mumbai began after the southwest monsoon hit the western coast last week.
Pune and western Maharashtra have also witnessed heavy rainfall in the past few days because of the revival of Monsoon.
