Restoration work continues, services to be normal by today at Churchgate station

The commuters taking 4.15am Churchgate-Virar bound local train on the Western Railway can change their schedule as the senior railway authorities claim the restoration work may be completed after Sunrise.

Although many seniors officials, including the General Manager of the Western Railways are present on the spot but technical issues are making the process of removal of the coach lenthier.

The restoration work at platform no.3 of Churchgate station was on till late on Sunday night.On Sunday morning the Churchgate-Bhayander bound train’s rake came crashing into the platform at a speed of 30 kmph while entering Churchgate railway station.

The collision occurred at 11.20 am Sunday, injuring five passengers, including the motorman who was subsequently suspended.

“The work is on of removing the coach, it is likley to take whole night. It is almost a loss of Rs. 8 crore to the railways. We are putting all our efforts to remove the coach. The services can be expected to be normal on Monday morning,” said Sunil Kumar Sood, General Manager, Western Railway. “There is no possibilty of restoring the coach. We initially thought but it is not possible. We are clearing it so as the commuters can travel from Monday morning,” added Sood. Sood was personally monitoring the ongoing work of removing the coach from the tracks. Almost 50 persons were engaged in the restoration for more than 12 hours after the incident took place. The Railway Protection Force personnel were stationed to control the mob gathering at the platform. “This is very shocking, to see. I regualrly travel by train. But after seeing this train in air, have developed fear. Trains are fastest mean of transporation and I have never seen horrifying incident like this in my life,” said Nilesh Makawana, a regular commuter.
