Sensex down over 300 points on Yemen woes

MUMBAI: The S&P BSE Sensex slipped over 300 points in intraday trade on Thursday following rising tensions in the Middle East. According to media reports, Saudi Arabia-led coalition of Arab nations has launched airstrikes in Yemen to push back Houthi rebels.

The rupee hit day’s low of 62.71 versus the US dollar.

Sensex at 27,782.10, down 329.73 points. Nifty @ 8,448.05, down 82.75 points.

Among top losers were: HDFC (-4.4%), INFOSYS (-2.4%), COAL INDIA (-2.2%), HDFC BANK (-1.9%), SESA STERLITE (-1.9%)

Top gainers were: BHEL (2.1%), BHARTI AIRTEL (1.3%), L&T (1.1%), ITC (0.5%), GAIL (0.4%)
