Ten people died in Ramban in Jammu and Kashmir
In a tragic incident on Friday, ten workers of a private construction company were killed in a major fire that broke out at Chanderkote in Ramban district on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
The deceased were sleeping in temporary structures which were razed to ashes. The victims appear to have died of asphyxia and burns, sources said, adding that four were hospitalised with severe burns.
According to police, though cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, it appears to have been caused by short circuit. The deceased include earth mover operators, helpers and labourers from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and different places of Jammu and Kashmir.
Five of the deceased have been identified as Rohit, a JCB operator from Himachal Pradesh, Showkat, a JCB helper from Chandigarh, Rakesh (Himachal Pradesmh), besides Irfan and Des RAJ, both from Doda.
