Terrorists Open Fire Inside Police Station in Jammu’s Kathua

JAMMU: A policeman and a civilian have died after terrorists, believed to be a fidayeen group, stormed a police station in Jammu’s Kathua district this morning. A terrorist has also been killed in the firefighting.

The attackers are reportedly inside the police station and a heavy exchange of firing is currently underway.

Reports suggest there are at least three attackers in military uniforms.

The terrorists opened fire at the Rajbagh police station a little after 6 am. This police station is located barely 15 kilometres from the International Border.Sources say the attackers could be a fresh group of infiltrators who may have crossed the border last night.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to the Director General of Police and has asked the Home Secretary to monitor the situation.

“India took the initiative to talk to Pakistan. We did not even reach a conclusion and firing happened. Pakistan is a habitual backstabber. Pakistan needs to know that friendship and terror cannot go together,” said senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.

District authorities have closed traffic on National Highway 1 in Jammu.

This is first major incident in Jammu and Kashmir since the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government took charge earlier this month.
