Two militants and three soldiers have been killed in an ongoing operation in Kupwara where militants attacked an Army garrison on Thursday morning.

A Srinagar-based Army spokesman told The Hindu that militants attacked the Army garrison in Kupwara’s Panzgam area, around 90 km away from Srinagar. “Two terrorists were killed. Three soldiers, including an officer, were also martyred,” said the spokesman.

The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday at Panjgaon at Chowkibal when militants, suspected to be of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad stormed the battalion camp which is in-charge of road opening duties on the crucial roads in this area.

Preliminary reports suggest it was a fidayeen attack. The number of militants involved in the attack could not be ascertained immediately.
