Vyapam scam: Whistleblower asks for armed security on train citing 41 deaths

BHOPAL: Moved by yet another mysterious death linked to Vyapam scam, whistleblower Dr Anand Rai has shot of a letter to the security wing of Madhya Pradesh police asking for deployment of armed guards inside his reserved rail coach during his journey to Uttar Pradesh starting October 21.

As many as 41 people linked to the scam have died so far. Most recent one is that of Vyapam’s former observer and retired Indian Forest Service officer (IFS) Vijay Bahadur Singh’s body was found on a railway track near Odisha’s Belpahad station on Thursday.

Dr Rai, who claims people linked to Vyapam are under attack from those involved, had dared Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to undergo a polygraph or narco-analysis test while volunteering to undertake the same, saying he wants truth to prevail.

“Even chief minister is my enemy now,” said Indore-based Dr Rai who had accused Chouhan of offering him a deal to cancel his transfer if he stopped the campaign over Vyapam and DMAT scams against him and his family members.

He had submitted an affidavit on September 2 before Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh high court, which is hearing his plea challenging his transfer from Indore to Dhar, stating that Chouhan summoned him to his official residence in Bhopal on August 11 through a common friend and offered to cancel his and his wife Gauri’s transfer to Ujjain. A division bench had asked state government to file its counter to the affidavit within a week.

Rai claimed he was being harassed because he exposed the involvement of influential people in the scam.
