Instagram adds new updates to its Direct Message feature
Instagram Direct, a feature launched by the app in 2013 that let users directly shared ‘instagrammed’ pictures with one person or a group, has gotten a new update. An official blog post from Instagram says that app will now support threaded messages and allow users to send content from their feed as a Direct message.
So now, users can share a picture with just one friend or a select group of friends via the Direct Message and send text messages around the photo or video they have shared.
Threaded messages will ensure that Instagram won’t create a new conversation every time a user sends a photo or video, and the threads are organised based on the people one interacts with on the app.
Instagram has also added the ability to name groups, a quick camera feature to respond with a selfie, and larger-than-life emoji option as well to its Direct Messages.
Instagram’s blog goes on to note, “Now, you’ll find an arrow next to the like and comment icons under every post. Tap it to send that post to a friend or group as a message using Instagram Direct. It will appear as part of your conversation, and you can tap the photo or video to see and like the original post.” Users can also send hashtag pages and location pages as well.
Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, has over 300 million users and the new feature is an attempt to ensure more engagement time on the app. The photo-sharing app recently announced that it will support landscape more photos as well, when earlier it only support portrait photos.
