Delhi Traffic Police constable dismissed from service for hitting woman with brick

New Delhi: Head constable Satish Chandra posted at circle Tuglak road was on Monday arrested and dismissed from service for being involved in a scuffle with a woman and subsequently attacking her with a brick.

A criminal case has been filed against the cop.

The incident took place at Golf Links, when the lady was on the way to drop her kids to school.

A video has surfaced which shows a scuffle breaking out between the woman and Chandra. The mobile clip shows a woman hurling a stone at the policeman’s bike, while the errant cop is seen attacking back the woman with a brick. The video clip clearly shows the lady getting hit on her back.

Speaking to the media, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi informed that the head constable has been suspended and an inquiry has been ordered.

“On behalf of myself and Delhi Police, I want to express my regret. The head constable has already been suspended. Apart from that, I have ordered that a criminal case be registered. We will investigate the matter,” Bassi said.

While providing first-hand information to news agency ANI, Kamal Kant, who shot the video, said that the lady alleged that the traffic cop had stopped her after she jumped a red light and asked for Rs 200 as penalty.

However, when she refused to pay the penalty without a receipt, a heated argument broke out resulting into the fight.

Meanwhile, the woman said that the cop should be strictly punished so that everyone thinks twice before repeating such an act.

“He refused to issue me a challan and abused me. When I protested he attacked me with a brick,” said the woman.

Reacting to the incident, Delhi Home Minister and AAP leader Satyendra Jain said he will look into the case and do whatever is required.

“The traffic cop involved in this shameful incident should be arrested immediately. The way he picked up a stone to hit the victim could have resulted in a major casualty,” Jain said.

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Barkha S Singh maintained that she will ask for a departmental inquiry against the cop and ensure appropriate punishment.
