Terrorists Attack Air Force Base in Peshawar in Pakistan, 6 Attackers Killed

PESHAWAR: Gunmen attacked a Pakistani air force base in the northwestern city of Peshawar today, the military said, adding that at least six attackers had been killed.

“As per initial information, seven to 10 terrorists tried to break deep in the base” but troops managed to contain them, military spokesman Major General Asim Bajwa said in a tweet.

He said that operations were still ongoing.

Television pictures showed helicopters hovering above the base while police and ambulances gathered outside.

The number of attacks in Pakistan has fallen dramatically this year, due to a combination of a military offensive against Taliban bases along the Afghan border and government initiatives to tackle militancy.
