Mock Tsunami Drill
India And 23 Other countries will participate in Mock Tsunami Drill at Indian Ocean on 9th and 10th of Sept.2014.
The drill is organized under the auspices of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanography Commission. This will be testing the Indian Ocean Tsunami Wanring and Mitigation System . The drill aims to evaluate the system’s operational capacity, efficiency of communication among the different concerned persons, and the state of preparation of national emergency services. The mock drill would stimulate tsunamis originating from two earthquake sources on successive days, one in the eastern Indian Ocean and the other in the north-western Indian Ocean.
The first simulation would be a magnitude of 9.1 earth quake south of JAVA and INDONESIA around 5.30 Hrs IST on 9th Sept 2014. The other would be a magnitude of 9.0 earthquake in Makran Trench, South of IRAN and PAKISTAN around 11.30 Hrs IST on Sept 10th.
The Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre, Hyderabadwould participate in this Drill, both in its capacity as Natinal Tsunami Warning Centre For India as well as one of the Regional Tsunami Advisory Services Provider in the Indian Ocean Region.
