Hema Upadhyay murder: Husband Chintan arrested by Mumbai police

Renowned artist Chintan Upadhyay was arrested by the Mumbai police in the wee hours of Tuesday in connection with the murders of his estranged wife Hema and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani, police said.
Chintan will be produced in the Borivali metropolitan magistrate by officers attached with the Kandivali police later in the day.

According to senior officers, the investigations unit of the Kandivali police called him for the first time for questioning late on Monday night shortly after he was released by a unit of the crime branch, where he was being earlier questioned since December 13.

Chintan is believed to have been arrested around 3.30 am earlier this morning.
Mumbai police suspect that Chintan could be linked to the plot to lure his wife with a video which his Jaipur-based domestic claimed to have made.

Hema and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani were killed when they went to watch the clip which was offered to her by Vidyadhar Rajbhar, the prime accused who is now absconding. Police believe the clip was just a trap and did not exist.

The bodies of Hema and her advocate Bhambhani were found wrapped in plastic sheets dumped in cardboard cartons and thrown in a drain in Kandivali on December 12.

So far, four persons have been arrested, Chintan is the fifth accused arrested in connection with the murders. The police is still on the lookout of Vidyadhar Rajbhar. All the four arrested accused are people who used to work at Vidyadhar’s Kandivali studio. Their custody ends today. With the arrest of Chintan, police will seek an extension of their custody.
