Sheea Bora Murder Case: DNA Tests Proved that Indrani Mukerjea Lied
Mr Maria said that a skull and bones recovered recently from a forest in the outskirts of Mumbai have shown a positive match with DNA samples collected from Indrani Mukerjea, a former media executive.
Jewellery belonging to Sheena Bora, which she was reportedly wearing when she was last seen alive has been found in raids at the Kolkata residence of Indrani Mukerjea’s first husband Sanjeev Khanna, said Mr Maria, who has spent long sessions interrogating Indrani Mukerjea and those with links to her.
Indrani Mukerjea’s husband, Peter Mukerjea, was questioned late tonight by Mr Maria, who said much of the line on inquiry is focused on the business dealings of the Mukerjeas, who married in 2002.
The police chief said that the Mukerjea’s transactions in Spain, the UK and India are being scrutinised.
In 2007, the Mukerjeas co-founded the broadcasting group, INX media, which they exited in 2009 amid talk of embezzlement and proxy firms.
Sheena Bora was last seen alive in April 2012. Police sources have said that they are looking at whether mother and daughter were caught in a financial dispute rooted in INX transactions.
During her lifetime, Sheena Bora was publically introduced as Indrani Mukerjea’s sister. She was also engaged to Rahul Mukerjea, the son of Peter Mukerjea from a previous marriage.
The police say Sheena Bora was abducted and strangled by Indrani Mukerjea, her first husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai. The next morning, her body was allegedly set on fire in a forest near Raigad.
Yesterday, Indrani Mukerjea was brought home for the first time since her arrest, as police tried to reconstruct the murder she has been accused of.
Peter Mukerjea was present at the upscale house they share in Worli.
